Single Arm Swiss Ball Plank

A pyramid and level sequence to enhancing strength and skill might read as 1. Stability and motor control. 2. Mobility and Torque. 3. Hypertrophy. 4. Strength & endurance. 5. Power (peak performance with strength and skill). If one component is missing, especially a basic one, all others fall like a Jenga board game piece pulled out too soon. Stability is what allows any human to create a foundation of balance and motor unit processing. Thus, if your core, pelvis, and appendages are swaying about during lifting or movements, the kinetic chain will not allow muscle memory (proprioception) to bring about positive changes. Stability training, not always but often involves a platform that adds or generates more instability. Shown here, I am using one arm plank on an unstable swiss ball. Start with two arms and a hold if moving in a circle isn’t yet applicable. Then, over time, work your way up to plank circles and finally one arm plank circles. A great tool to do prior to singe arm or single leg training.
