Barbell block press

Demonstrated here is a barbell block press in an attempt to accelerate the speed of the bar with proper torque and thoracic extension. When athlete’s go through the combine, they are tested on how many reps they can perform at 225lbs. They are instructed to explode with ferocious velocity to test muscular endurance and power output. Meaning, moving heavy loads fast is extremely challenging. It takes spinal extension, tremendous leg drive and shoulder + lat stability so the path of the bar is aligned and moves fast. Too many athlete’s are lifting like body builders. The goal of an athletes is to maximize anaerobic force production with strength. Before I do this, I make sure to warm up my extension with overhead dumbbell pullovers, thoracic wall slides, shoulder stability and shoulder external rotation to get the most out of it. DO NOT bench press fast without a proper warm up. The emphasis of loaded power is a the peak of performance. Try 3-5 sets at 4-8 reps and be explosive.
